Day 61

Mountain Top Removal Charleston, WV

Today we were all to meet in town and get rides from volunteers up to a MTR(mountain top removal) site. I slept in thinking the meeting time was an hour later than it actually was. Luckily for me one of the volunteer drivers was behind schedule so Kevin was still in town waiting for his ride.

Day 56

Dayton to Columbus

While I was asleep, Emily exacted her revenge for the toad at Fletcher Lake. She turned my bike into a birthday party. I liked it, so I rode it all day that way. Read the rest of this entry »

Day 51

Fletcher Lake, IN to Kokomo, IN

I woke up and my sleeping bag was so wet that there were little puddles of water collected on it around my feet.

We rode on beautiful quiet county roads again today well away from any thoroughfares or highways.

Kokomo was our destination for the day. Mindy and I stopped in at a used bookstore called Don’s Used Books. I exchanged my books for Iran; Past and Present and a Spanish-English dictionary. Mindy and I got to talking with Robert, the owner of the bookstore, who lived in a large apartment above the store. Being a cyclist himself he was very interested in our bike trip. He referred us to a great coffee shop which he ended up calling while we were there to tell us that we could stay at his place for the night. Read the rest of this entry »

Day 45
Ron’s to Princeton

This morning Ron made me breakfast and told me of a great bike trail I could take east for about 40 miles.

About 20 miles after I had made a stop along the trail I realized I had left my helmet. Not wanting an extra 40 miles for the day I just left it. The trail was great aside from some trees that had fallen across the path that provided a bit of a challenge to move a 100+ lb. bicycle over. Read the rest of this entry »

Day 37
York to Lincoln

Today was the hottest it’s been this entire trip. The heat index said that it had gotten up to 102 F.

In Lincoln I stayed with a fellow I met off Couchsurfing.org named Nate. Nate was a terrific host. We talked about politics, played some guitar, and played a game of chess (which I lost horribly). He was even patient enough to let me teach him how to play magic.
