Panniers

Posted by jack On May - 6 - 2009

I decided to go with Ortlieb for all my bike bags. Ortlieb has a very good reputation among bicycle tourists as tried and true bags that are durable, waterproof, and functional. They are made in Germany, well designed, and made from good materials. Although a bit on the expensive side they are well worth the money as they will last for many many years.

For the Rear Panniers I am using the Back Roller Classics. It can be kind of difficult nowadays to find products that aren’t “disposable”, these bags are made to last forever.

Ortlieb makes bags specifically for the front and for the rear rack. The front bags are smaller in capacity than the rear bags but use the same mounting system. I chose to use their rear(or larger) bags on both the front and back racks. So for the front panniers I am using the Bike Packer Plus bags. Aside from their outer appearance these ones are designed differently than the classics. They have cordura fabric on the outside with a full rubber lining. The walls aren’t quite as thick as the classics but they still seem very tough.

For my handle bar bag I am using the Ultimate 5 Classic and the detachable map case.
